Following Confirmation from National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control, Last Energy Completes Pre-Authorization Phase of Romanian Nuclear Licensing
Bucharest, Romania — Last Energy, a full-service developer of 20 MWe micro modular nuclear power plants, announced today that it received confirmation from the National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control (“CNCAN”), Romania’s national nuclear regulatory body, that it has completed the pre-authorization phase of the nuclear licensing process and can formally enter the authorization phase.
“We’re proud to have advanced out of the nuclear pre-authorization phase and are already working on the next set of licensing milestones necessary to deliver reliable, clean energy to Romania,” said Mihai Darie, CEO of Last Energy Romania. “Romania has established itself as a global leader in nuclear power in part because of its embrace of small- and micro-scale solutions, which is a reflection of CNCAN’s forward-thinking vision. CNCAN has been an incredibly insightful partner throughout the pre-authorization phase, and we look forward to continuing our dialogue with them during the authorization phase.”
Last Energy received its comfort letter following CNCAN’s review and acceptance of the company’s development and licensing strategy, which includes Last Energy’s organizational principles, major conceptual design elements, design safety philosophy, licensing bases, and broader project road map. Following its review, CNCAN concluded that the PWR-20’s conceptual design and Last Energy’s overall project approach are credible, that Last Energy has finished the pre-authorization phase, and that the company may subsequently begin the authorization phase according to Romania’s licensing framework.
